Producing, using and economically assessing PV electricity
Companies can use solar power themselves, feed surplus electricity into the grid or share it locally. The key factors are system size, load profile, grid connection and the appropriate remuneration or community model.
Overview
Solar pays off when technology and cost-effectiveness work together
For companies, roof area, consumption, feed-in, storage, EMS and potential community models influence the best solution.
A PV system can reduce energy costs, increase self-consumption and make surplus electricity usable. For companies, planning is often more complex than for smaller systems: connected load, grid capacity, metering concept, feed-in power and remuneration model should be assessed at an early stage. Depending on the location and objective, feed-in remuneration, dynamic purchase remuneration, vZEV or LEG may be relevant.
The key entry points for companies – from registration and feed-in to local electricity communities.
Choose the appropriate entry point depending on the project phase: planning and registration, remuneration for surplus electricity, or models for using locally produced solar power with additional consumption points.

Register your PV system correctly
Before construction and feed-in, the connection, feed-in capacity, metering concept and technical documentation must be checked. Especially for larger systems, early coordination with your specialist partner is worthwhile.View registration process
Feed in
Get paid for surplus electricity
If your PV system produces more electricity than your business consumes at the same time, you can feed the surplus into the BKW grid. The relevant factors are output class, market price logic and possible minimum remuneration.Classify feed-in
Dynamic compensation
Use hourly market prices
With the feed-in tariff, remuneration is based on the hourly spot market price. This can be of interest to companies with larger PV systems, storage systems, EMS or flexible consumers.Check acceptance remuneration
Clarify grid connection and feed-in at an early stage
Commercial systems often have higher outputs than typical household systems. Therefore, before implementation, it should be checked whether the connection and distribution grid allow the desired feed-in and which metering is required.
Use electricity together
Share or market solar power locally
For sites, commercial properties or locations in close proximity, vZEV or LEG can create additional opportunities.
Not all solar power has to be consumed directly on a company’s own premises or fed entirely into the grid. Depending on the grid topology, municipal boundary, connected load and organisation, companies can share locally produced electricity with other consumption points. A distinction is made between self-consumption models such as vZEV and a local electricity community, which uses the public distribution grid.
