Why report?
Why it’s worth registering early
When moving in and out, tenants and private property owners must register and deregister the electricity themselves.
You are BKW's contractual partner if you purchase electricity. This means registration or deregistration is handled directly by you – not by the property management company or landlord. Notify us of your move in good time so that the meter reading can be recorded correctly and your final invoice prepared properly.
01Save timeRegistering electricity for your new flat or house can be done online in just a few steps. You enter your details once, and we take care of the rest.02Save moneyWith the correct electricity registration and deregistration, you will receive a final bill for your old address. Costs incurred after your move will not be charged to you.03Save your nervesThe tariff at your new address may differ from your previous one. After registration, you will find out which tariff applies to you.

Why you and not your landlord?
What many people don’t know: when moving home, tenants and private owners must deregister and register their electricity themselves. This is neither the responsibility of a property management company nor of the landlord.
The reason: You receive the electricity and are therefore the direct contractual party of BKW. The electricity contract is not automatically transferred when you move.
Step by step
How to register your move with BKW
After your online notification, BKW processes the information and, in the event of a move-out, prepares the final bill.
Please report your move-in or move-out no later than 10 days before the date if possible. In the event of a move-out, the meter reading will be taken when the keys are handed over at the end of the tenancy agreement.

When tenants move in, they are responsible for registering the electricity themselves. The contract is not transferred automatically, and the landlord or property management company does not register the electricity on their behalf when they move. If no notification is submitted, the existing contract will continue to run. The costs will continue to be charged to the person last registered. A subsequent reallocation of the costs to tenants is possible, but this will incur additional costs. Tip: When handing over the apartment, actively remind your tenants that they must register the electricity in their own name. This protects both parties from unexpected costs.
