Planning & connection capacity
Connect customers’ buildings to the grid
This is a standard step in the construction process when building a new property. However, for existing buildings too, it is crucial to check at an early stage whether the existing connection capacity meets the new requirements. BKW supports you with these clarifications and with planning the appropriate grid connection.

Step by step
Grid connection with BKW in five steps
The grid connection follows a clearly regulated process. As a specialist partner, you take care of planning and submission. BKW provides the grid and ensures safe operation.
Depending on the type of installation, additional requirements must be taken into account: Q(U) control for inverters, external grid and system protection, emergency control, metering concept, instrument transformer metering, medium-voltage connection or specifications for ZEV/vZEV and feed-in systems.
Step 01Building permitYou submit your application for connection to the electricity grid to the municipality together with the client’s building application.Step 02Technical connection requestIf a system with grid impact is installed, a Technical Connection Application (TAG) is also required.Step 03Application via notification formAs a specialist partner, you apply for the grid connection with BKW and order the necessary components.Step 04Quote and orderYou will receive our offer and confirm your order by means of the form and signature.Step 05Installation and commissioningAs a rule, the property can be connected to our grid within a few weeks of receipt of the signed grid connection order.

How much does the grid connection cost at BKW?
The costs for a grid connection with BKW are made up as follows:
  1. Grid connection: The so-called grid connection contribution charged by BKW covers part of the costs for your grid expansion. The contribution is payable once only and depends on the cable cross-section of the connection you have ordered.
  2. Grid costs: The grid cost contribution covers part of the costs of the existing distribution grid and is charged depending on the rated current of the connection overcurrent circuit-breaker. The rated current of the connection overcurrent circuit-breaker is the maximum permissible current that the fuse can carry under normal operating conditions.
  3. House connection box: The house connection box is usually attached to the outside wall of your building. Both the box and the installation can be ordered from BKW.
  4. Surcharge for the house connection box inside the building: If you would like to have the house connection box (or the connection overcurrent circuit breaker) installed inside the house, a surcharge of CHF 400.- will be charged. The connection overcurrent circuit breaker is the fuse installed in the house connection box.
  5. Cable sealing element: The cable sealing element seals the inside of the cable protection pipe and is charged at a flat rate of CHF 200.-.
