Meter reading
Why your electricity meter is read
As a distribution grid operator, BKW is legally obliged to measure and bill electricity consumption.
For billing purposes, BKW meter readers usually read all electricity meters once a year. If this is not possible, we ask you to read your electricity meter yourself and enter the meter number and meter reading in the customer portal or on the self-reading card.

Smart Meter
Every metre counts
Smart meters are intelligent electricity meters and an important building block for the future of electricity.
By the end of 2027, all BKW customers will receive a smart meter. Anyone who knows their electricity consumption, feed-in and output precisely can better understand and optimise their own energy consumption. At the same time, the measurement data helps BKW to plan and operate the electricity grid safely, reliably and efficiently.
