In order for your company to feed in solar power and receive remuneration for it, the system must be technically registered, inspected and approved.
Registration and approval
The process starts before the installation is built
For companies, PV systems are often larger. That is why the grid connection, feed-in capacity, metering concept and remuneration model should be clarified at an early stage.
Registration is usually carried out via your specialist partner. They submit the technical documents and coordinate the necessary steps with BKW. BKW checks whether the desired installation can be operated and feed in at the existing connection. Only after approval, construction, acceptance and the meter/measurement concept can surplus electricity be fed in and remunerated.
Registration process
How companies register their PV system
From the initial assessment to remuneration: the key steps for feed-in and billing.
The exact process depends on the system size, connection capacity, metering concept and desired remuneration model. Your specialist partner will support you with the technical registration.
Plan system and usage
Step 01
Plan system and usage
Clarify PV capacity, self-consumption, feed-in capacity, battery storage, EMS, charging infrastructure and the desired remuneration model with your specialist partner.
Submit technical connection application
Step 02
Submit technical connection application
Your specialist partner submits the necessary technical documents. BKW checks the connection, feed-in capacity and possible effects on the connection line and distribution grid.
Await approval and any conditions
Step 03
Await approval and any conditions
If grid or connection modifications are required, BKW will inform you about the next steps. For larger systems, this may extend the timeline.
Build the installation and have it inspected
Step 04
Build the installation and have it inspected
After approval, your specialist partner will build the system. Before commissioning, the installation and protection concept are checked and the required documentation is submitted.
Activate metering and remuneration
Step 05
Activate metering and remuneration
After approval and correct metering, surplus electricity can be fed into the grid. Remuneration is provided according to the chosen model, for example feed-in remuneration or purchase remuneration.
Report changes again
Step 06
Report changes again
If you expand the system later, add storage or change the feed-in capacity, the relevant part of the process must be reviewed again.
Prepare remuneration
Factor in the remuneration model early on
Registration creates the technical basis. Which remuneration model makes economic sense should be examined in parallel.
For companies, feed-in remuneration, dynamic purchase remuneration, guarantees of origin or aggregation models may be relevant. Especially for larger systems with storage or an EMS, it is worthwhile coordinating self-consumption, feed-in times and billing at an early stage.
