Produce electricity, use it yourself and feed it into the grid
Are you planning or do you own a solar power system? Here you will find an overview: from plug-and-play systems and grid connection to feeding into the public electricity grid.
Surplus solar power can be made available to other users via the public electricity grid.
If your photovoltaic system produces more electricity than you consume yourself, you can feed the surplus into the BKW electricity grid. This requires a suitable grid connection with sufficient capacity. BKW, as the distribution grid operator, handles administration and billing.
Depending on the size and project, a different next step may be appropriate.
Small installation
Register a plug-and-play photovoltaic system
Small solar systems for balconies or patios must also be registered. There is a dedicated page for this with the relevant information.Register Plug & Play
House connection
Check grid connection
Larger installations require a suitable grid connection. Check early on whether the existing connection capacity is sufficient. To the grid connection

Feed in electricity and receive remuneration
If your system is sufficiently connected to the grid, surplus electricity can be fed in and credited according to the remuneration model.Compare remuneration models
Grid-friendly feed-in control: What households need to know
Grid-friendly feed-in control ensures that new photovoltaic systems do not overload the electricity grid. Systems newly connected to the grid from 1 January 2026 may feed a maximum of 70% of their installed module capacity into the grid. For household customers, it is important to note that your specialist partner will take this requirement into account when planning and registering the system.
Procedure
From planning to feed-in
For larger solar installations, you work with a specialist partner. They clarify the technical requirements and submit the necessary applications.
At my.bkw.ch, you can check the available grid capacity of your building connection in advance. For a binding preliminary assessment, your specialist partner submits a technical connection application. Following approval, installation and acceptance, surplus electricity can be fed into the grid and remunerated.
