Participation in a LEG

Share locally generated solar power

As a participant, you purchase or share locally produced solar power. For LEG electricity, you receive a 20% or 40% discount on the grid usage fee, depending on the grid topology. You agree the prices and conditions within the LEG directly with the operator.

There are a few requirements and special considerations for participating in a local electricity community (LEG). Here you will find the key points at a glance.

Smart meter

To participate, you need a BKW Smart Meter (metering point) that measures your electricity consumption.

Contract

Participation requires a private-law contract with the operator of the LEG.

Invoices

By default, you will receive one invoice from BKW and one invoice from the LEG.

With an LEG, you can purchase locally produced electricity and benefit from a reduced grid usage fee. Your potential savings depend, among other things, on the grid topology and on the prices and costs agreed within the LEG.

How to become part of an LEG

Have you received an invitation to join an LEG? From checking the conditions to activation, it only takes a few steps.

Invitation received

The operator of an LEG invites you to participate and informs you about the conditions.

Arrange participation

Check the conditions and conclude the participation agreement with the operator.

Sign in to BKW

The operator registers your participation with BKW. BKW checks the technical requirements, such as smart meters and grid topology.

Participate in the LEG

Once the check has been completed successfully, your participation will be activated. From this point on, you can obtain electricity from the LEG.
