Figures & facts
Production plants in the BKW distribution grid
The current figures showing how many energy generation plants are connected to BKW's distribution grid and how their output is developing are published here.

Development
The boom is occurring primarily in photovoltaics.
The number of energy generation systems connected to the BKW distribution grid is growing rapidly – particularly due to photovoltaic systems.
Since 2021, around 20,000 additional photovoltaic connections have been added. Other generation technologies such as hydropower or other plants developed significantly more moderately over the same period.
PhotovoltaicsSignificant expansion in the distribution gridPhotovoltaic systems are shaping the development: since 2021, the number of PV connections in the BKW distribution grid has increased by around 20,000.WaterSlight increaseHydropower plants in the distribution grid show stable development with slight growth – from 194 to 202 plants.Additional installationsModerate growthOther production facilities increased from 101 to 148 connections during the period under review – significantly less dynamically than photovoltaics.
Classification
Why the numbers matter
More generation plants are changing the requirements placed on the distribution grid.
The expansion of decentralised installations is an important building block of the energy transition. At the same time, grid connection assessments, technical connection requests and forward-looking grid planning are needed.

Current solar power generation by region
Compare the current solar power production in each region with the maximum possible output of the installed photovoltaic systems.

The data shown are delayed by approximately one hour.

What becomes visible
From individual installation to system task
The published figures show not only volumes, but also the transformation of the energy system.
BKW provides transparency on how many installations are connected to its distribution grid and how capacity and connection numbers are developing. This helps to put the progress of decentralised electricity production into context.

This much solar power is currently being fed into the BKW grid
The diagram shows the current output of the photovoltaic systems that feed solar power into the BKW grid.

The data shown is delayed by approximately one hour.

The values on this page are published as current figures and show the development of energy generation plants in the distribution grid.
