Grid connection
Connect companies to the electricity grid
Whether it’s a new building, business expansion, larger PV system, heat pump or charging infrastructure: so that your company can use and feed in electricity safely, you need a suitable grid connection with sufficient capacity.

Connected load
Is your grid connection ready for your plans?
Check at an early stage whether the existing connection capacity is sufficient for new installations, business expansions or feed-in.
For businesses, the requirements for a grid connection are often higher than for households: larger PV systems, charging infrastructure for employees or fleets, heat pumps, production facilities or refrigeration and ventilation technology may require additional capacity. In the customer portal, you can see information about your connection. For a binding assessment, your specialist partner submits a technical connection application (TAG).

Process
Grid connection in five steps
From the building permit to commissioning: this is how your company’s connection to the BKW electricity grid works.
Depending on the project, different applications and forms are required. For larger PV systems, charging infrastructure or new operating facilities, it is worth clarifying the technical requirements particularly early on. Your specialist partner will support you with planning, notification forms and installation. BKW reviews the applications, prepares a quote if required and extends the grid to your location.
Step 01Clarify project requirements and service needsPlan your new build, extension, PV system, charging infrastructure or additional consumers together with your specialist partner and define the connected load and feed-in capacity.Step 02Clarify technical connection requestFor systems that affect the grid, your specialist partner submits a technical connection application. This checks whether the connection is possible as planned or whether the grid needs to be reinforced.Step 03Submit a request via the notification formOnce the new or extended grid connection has been approved, your specialist partner registers the connection with BKW and orders the necessary components and metering infrastructure.Step 04Review offer and confirm orderYou will receive an offer from BKW including an order form for connection to the electricity grid. Check and sign the grid connection order and return it to BKW.Step 05Complete installation and commissioningBKW extends the grid to your site. Your specialist partner handles installation, final inspection and the safety certificate. For PV systems, feed-in and metering for billing are also set up.
Costs
How much does a grid connection cost?
The costs depend, among other things, on the connection ordered, the rated current and the required infrastructure.
A grid connection consists of several cost components: grid connection contribution, grid cost contribution, building connection box, any surcharge for the building connection box inside the building, and cable sealing element. The actual costs are shown in the BKW quotation. The calculation examples serve as a guide value.
The one-off grid connection charge depends on the cable cross-section of the connection ordered. The grid cost contribution is based on the rated current of the connection overcurrent circuit breaker.
